Same Heart. New Tools. How 14 Years in Healthcare Led Me to the Front Lines of AI.

A little over a year ago, I never would have imagined calling myself a software engineer, let alone one of the early women building software through what we now call “vibe coding.”
I spent 14 years in healthcare. I worked as a CNA, CMA, and eventually moved into healthcare management and supervisory roles. I grew up on a farm. I knew how to work hard, take care of people, solve problems, and keep going when things got difficult.
I did not know how to code.
Then, in 2025, my husband started introducing me to the world of software engineering at the same time AI-assisted coding was beginning to change what was possible. It was early. It was messy. Sometimes it worked beautifully, and sometimes it absolutely did not.
But I kept learning.
I learned how to take an idea, explain the problem, work through it with AI, test it, break it, fix it, and eventually turn it into something people could actually use. One small project became another. A year later, I am building and maintaining real systems through our successful woman-owned business.
It has completely changed my life.
The Human Side of Technology
One of the biggest surprises has been realizing that I did not leave everything I learned in healthcare behind.
In many ways, I use those skills every day.
Some of the feedback I am most proud of has nothing to do with code. Clients tell me I am quick to respond, easy to talk to, and that I listen to their concerns.
That matters to me.
When someone tells me a system is frustrating, confusing, or takes too many steps, I want to understand why. I want software to work for the person who is brand new just as much as it works for the person who has already been forced to learn ten different systems throughout their career.
I like learning alongside people. I like being someone they feel comfortable calling when something is not working. I like turning “I wish this could just...” into “It can.”
Maybe taking care of people was better preparation for technology than I ever realized.
AI Does Not Have to Be About Replacing People
We hear constantly about AI taking jobs.
That has never been what excites me about it.
I am excited about using technology to remove frustration, help businesses grow, give people better tools, and help someone spend less of their day fighting with a computer and more of it doing the work they are actually good at.
Technology should empower people.
I know what it feels like to start from nothing in a new industry. That is exactly why I want to help other people realize they are capable of more than the job title or experience they have today.
You do not have to be the person who has been coding since childhood. You do not have to understand everything before you begin. You have to be curious, willing to learn, willing to fail, and willing to keep going.
Good Vibes
Being one of the early female vibe coders is something I am genuinely proud of.
Not because I believe AI is the answer to everything, but because for the first time in my career, I feel like I am on the front lines of something new instead of trying to catch up to it.
I get to build. I get to learn. I get to help people. And I get to pay forward an opportunity that completely changed my own life.
The world is going to keep moving forward. I do not want to be afraid of that anymore.
I want to move forward with it.
I want to keep learning, keep building better systems, help businesses and people reach their potential, and hopefully make work a little easier, more human, and even a little better for the planet along the way.
If someone who grew up on a farm, spent 14 years taking care of people, and started with no traditional software background can find her place here, maybe someone else reading this can too.
That is what good vibes mean to me.
